"Key event in Russia-China relations of this year"
Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Russia has commenced with a ceremony for the official meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in the St. George Hall of the Great Kremlin Palace. Taking part in the ceremony were members of the delegations. The two leaders greeted each of them with a handshake.
Opening the ceremony, Putin said Xi Jinping's visit was a "key event" of this year in relations between the two neighbors.
"In recent years, thanks to your direct participation, the relationship between Russia and China has reached an unprecedentedly high level," the Russian leader stressed.
Xi Jinping, in turn, stressed that the relations between China and Russia have stood the test of time in the context of the changing situation in the world.
"Chinese-Russian relations have stood the test of the changing situation in the world and in our countries. Step by step, we have managed to bring our relations to a new level, the highest in history," he said, recalling that the diplomatic relations between the two countries began 70 years ago.
"In the context of radical change, unprecedented in the last hundred years, the people of our countries and the international community place great expectations on us," the Chinese leader noted. He stressed that there is no limit to the development of relations between Moscow and Beijing.
"We are ready to continue expanding the positive effect of our high-level relations together, side by side," Xi Jinping assured. He expressed confidence in the success of his state visit to Russia. "Thank you for the warm welcome," Xi Jinping told Putin.
