Lavrov and Shoigu paid check visit to Yerevan
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu made a business trip to the South Caucasus to resolve the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
In Yerevan, Shoigu met with Vagharshak Harutyunyan, who was appointed the head of the Armenian Defense Ministry the day before, as well as with the head of the republic's government Nikol Pashinyan.
Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko and Head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova also arrived in the capital of Armenia as part of an interdepartmental Russian delegation.
During the visit, Lavrov met with the new Foreign Minister of Armenia Ara Ayvazyan, during which he stressed that all parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict recognized the November 9 statement on Karabakh as unconditional. "It was recognized by everyone that this statement is an unconditional way of resolving the situation, which acquired a very, very negative character a few weeks ago," he said.
Lavrov also met with Pashinyan and Armenian President Armen Sarkissian.
Pashinyan reaffirmed Yerevan's complete adherence to the November 9 statement on Nagorno-Karabakh.
