Lowcoster Eurowings makes inaugural flight to Georgia
Eurowings, a German low-cost carrier and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, has made its inaugural flight to Georgia carrying 171 passengers from Dusseldorf to Tbilisi.
As of now, Dusseldorf-Tbilisi flights will be carried out on Sundays only, but starting July 21, more flights will be added on Wednesdays.
The management of Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports reports that a total of three airlines are performing flights from Germany to Georgia nine times a week:b Georgian Airways from Berlin, Lufthansa from Munich, Eurowings from Dusseldorf.
Welcoming the very first passengers of Eurowings, Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava said the lowcoster makes travelling even more affordable.
"It is important that the decision on launching the flights has started during the pandemic [and] despite the pandemic... It is a very strong message for us that our tourism industry will recover very fast," Agenfda.ge cited her as saying.
Turnava added that the Government of Georgia will spare no efforts to ensure more new air companies.
