Macron: EU sanctions on Russia do not work
The European Union needs a new strategy on Russia because sanctions alone have not changed its behaviour, French president Emmanuel Macron has said.
"With Russia, the policy of progressive sanctions on frozen situations is no longer an effective policy," Macron told press after an EU summit on May 26.
"We are reaching a moment of truth in our relationship to Russia," he noted. The French leader said other EU member states also want to "reframe their relationship with Russia," Bloomberg reported.
"Today," Macron said, "we are at the limit of what sanctions policies can achieve."
