Macron to meet Zarif before G7
France’s President Emmanuel Macron said he would meet Iranian officials ahead of this weekend’s G7 summit and make proposals aimed at de-escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
“In the coming hours before the G7 I will have meetings with the Iranians and propose ideas,” Reuters cited Macron as saying.
Iran’s foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said earlier this week he would meet Macron and Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in Paris on Friday.
Leaders from the U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Japan and the EU will attend the Group of Seven meeting in the French resort of Biarritz on August 24-26.
