Maria Zakharova to Vestnik Kavkaza: Russia welcomes everything that allows sides of Karabakh conflict to agree on something
As the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair and active mediator in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement, Russia recognizes and takes into account only those statements of the sides that are in line with peaceful spirit of negotiation process and focus on resolution of the Karabakh problem without the use of force.
This statement was made by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, who commented on the question of Vestnik Kavkazka correspondent about statement of Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan on replacement of the “territory for peace” settlement formula with the “new war for new territories” formula, later supported by Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
“I can reconfirm Russia's commitment to political-diplomatic settlement of the conflict. Certainly, priority is given to mutual agreements of the sides. If there are things or issues on which they agree, we welcome it,” she noted.
“If sides need help of mediators, we're ready to lend it to them within the framework of our commitments as co-chairs of the Minsk Group. We're facilitating negotiation process and keep in touch," she concluded.
