Merkel acknowledges mistakes of the EU
The European Union made a lot of mistakes many times, but now it's time to correct them, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in an interview with Italian state channel. She arrived in Rome for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the union.
"I think don't think what we did was right every time. It's time to finish what remains unfinished, we have a great platform for this. We didn't think about external borders' strengthening while opening them, we weren't ready for the crisis while introducing a common currency. But we fix all of this through banking union and stabilization mechanisms," she said.
Merkel believes that Europe will be able to find a way to resolve migration problem if it will look for it together.
"We must guarantee (such conditions), so that people wouldn't run (from their countries), we must resolve crises like in Syria and do it together," she noted.
