Pashinyan on higher education in Armenia

If Armenian language, Armenian literature and Armenian history are mandatory subjects for university students, then this means these subjects weren’t taught properly in school, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a parliamentary session.

According to the PM, if Armenia wants to ensure education at the international level, the teaching of these subjects at universities also needs to be viewed from a different perspective.

“Let’s try to understand this. For instance, is English language a mandatory subject at the University of Sorbonne or the University of Cambridge? These universities have academic freedom,” cited him as saying.

According to Pashinyan, if Armenia wants to become a technologically advanced country, it must provide teaching of subjects such as mathematics, engineering, etc.
