Peskov: Erdogan does not mention Assad in conversation with Putin
The statement of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the Turkish troops entered Syria to end the rule of Syrian President Bashar Assad came as a surprise, the Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"No doubt, we hope that in the near future there will be explanations on this from our Turkish partners," TASS cited Peskov as saying.
"The statement is in discord with previous ones in general and with our understanding of the situation," Peskov said.
"No, principal and hypothetic speculation is irrelevant here, Erdogan made no statements on such plans of Ankara during the recent phone conversations with our President," he added.
