Peskov: Russia's constitution allows women to run for president
The Russian Constitution does not hold back women in any way from becoming the country’s president, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"As for female presidential candidates, the answer is very simple - the Constitution of the Russian Federation - it provides a precise explanation of who can run for the presidency," TASS cited Peskov as saying.
"[Russia’s constitution stipulates that those running for the office of president] men and women are eligible, there is no separation," he added.
Sergey Mironov, leader of A Just Russia party, said earlier that his party could nominate a female candidate for Russia’s 2018 presidential election - the Vice-speaker of the State Duma Olga Epifanova or the deputy Elena Drapeko.
