Petru Lucinschi: explosive situation dictates need for new format for solving global problems
The existing level of global threats is so dangerous that it is necessary to create a new project in addition to the current one, the proposals should come from the UN, the ex-president of Moldova Petru Lucinschi said, addressing the 5th Global Baku Forum, the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reports.
"Almost everyone is concerned, global platforms are discussing the problems of terrorism, migration, degradation of morals. Many times I spoke about the role of the UN at the international meetings: it should create a group of people who are able to offer something. If we want to discuss a new world order, we should have some kind of project," the politician stressed.
He explained that the UN Security Council has acquired the status of a debating club at best, at worst - of a brake in solving important issues. "It was created when its participants were partners after the war and trusted each other, but now if a conflict arises in a small country in which someone from the Security Council is interested, the resolution will not pass because of the veto," the ex-president said.
Lucinschi urged political elites to intensify the discussion of ways to exit from crises, since otherwise the probability of an explosive situation is high.
