Putin: Russia repels 17,000 cyber attacks

The number of cyber attacks on Russia reached 17,000 in 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a board meeting of the Federal Security Service (FSB).

Putin noted that the number of coordinated cyber attacks consisting of a series of actions has grown in the past three years: a little more than 1,500 attacks were recorded annually in 2014-2015, while as many as 17,000 cyber attacks were recorded in 2018.

"It is important to ensure the safety of national information resources and quickly thwart cyber attacks on government agencies, state corporations, mobile operators and big companies, as well as to ensure the unhindered operation of confidential communication lines," TASS cited the Russian leader as saying.
