Russia’s Emergencies Ministry ready to demine Syria
Russia's Emergencies Ministry has held talks with the UN on humanitarian demining efforts in Syria, the ministry’s press service said.
"The Russian Emergencies Ministry’s expert group held working meetings and consultations in Beirut and Damascus with the senior officials of the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) and representatives of the Syrian government from July 20 to July 27 to discuss multilateral humanitarian demining projects in Syria. Taking into account the Syrian government’s stance, the Russian Emergencies Ministry is ready to join the UN-sponsored humanitarian demining work," TASS cited the ministry as saying.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry plans, together with the specialized international agencies, to train ordnance technicians, instruct the population and conduct mine clearance operations.
Plans are also in store to continue providing humanitarian aid to the population and refugees in Syria.
