Russia detects over 400 cases of UK coronavirus strain, says expert
Over 400 cases of infection with the UK coronavirus strain and 33 cases of the South African strain have been detected in Russia, Deputy Director for Research of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing Alexander Gorelov said on Thursday, TASS reports.
"A total of 401 samples of the British strain and 33 samples of the South African one were isolated in Russia," Gorelov told a conference on treatment and prevention of infectious diseases.
According to the latest global statistics, over 165 mln people have been infected worldwide and more than 3.4 mln deaths have been reported. To date, 4,974,908 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Russia, with 4,591,770 patients having recovered from the disease. Russia’s latest data indicates 117,361 fatalities nationwide. Earlier, the Russian government set up an Internet hotline to keep the public updated on the coronavirus situation.
