Russian foreign minister comments on Macron’s opinion of NATO
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on the recent statements of French President Emmanuel Macron who described the current situation as the "brain death of NATO."
As a leader of a NATO member state, Macron is able to have a justified opinion on the current state of the alliance, the diplomat said during the Moscow Nonproliferation Conference.
"It is not my wish to argue about diagnoses," TASS cited the Russian foreign minister as saying.
If French President "feels that this diagnosis is obvious, he has the right to express his opinion," Lavrov pointed out.
The diplomat noted that Macron knows NATO much better than he, being one of the leading member states of the Alliance.
"It is in our interest to develop equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with NATO, in accordance with our foreign policy track. So when NATO 'gets better', we won’t take long to respond," the Russian diplomat stressed.
