Sargsyan to stay in Armenia
Ex-President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan will not leave the country, the President of the Republic Armen Sarkisyan said.
"We met several days ago, had a cup of tea and discussed the internal political situation in the country. I think that President Sargsyan is not going to leave his homeland," he said.
"I hope that the new government will be successful. Otherwise all those hopes of the people of Armenia will be in vain," Sargsyan added, responding to journalists' questions.
The parliament of Armenia elected opposition leader Pashinyan as the country’s new prime minister yesterday. Pashinyan was elected by the majority of 59 votes in the parliament, while 42 votes were cast against his candidacy. Sargsyan resigned earlier in the month amid mass protests of the opposition supporters across the country.
