Sberbank and VTB to enter Crimea
Residents of Crimea will be able to receive services in Sberbank and VTB, the Chairman of the State Duma Committee for the Financial Market, Anatoly Aksakov said on the sidelines of the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Summit - WBCSummit.
"In fact, the saturation with credit institutions Crimea is comparable to other regions, including Krasnodar, the Krasnodar Territory, the Rostov region. This all indicates that, in principle, the appearance of these additional institutions will not change the situation. The competition can increase, but it will have a short-term effect, because there is a project related to the use of biometric data, and it solves this problem, "RIA Novosti quotes the deputy as saying.
The project will be launched on July 1st this year, it involves RNKB and the Russia bank. Crimeans will provide biometric data at will and receive services from VTB and Sberbank, without leaving home. Entrepreneurs and legal entities can use digital signature and all digital technologies for remote identification instead of biometrics for remote retrieval of services.
On Wednesday, head of VTB Andrei Kostin said that the bank does not see the need to enter the Crimean market and get under sanctions because the organizations working in the region are coping with the tasks of serving the population. "Today, the banking sector in Crimea works quite adequately, and those banks that are there - RNKB and the Russia bank are coping well with the tasks of providing the population with Mir cards. There is no need for another 100 banks there,’’ Kostin said. Because of sanctions, VTB cannot yet work in Crimea, he recalled.
