Shamil Tarpischev: tennis is ideal sport for Caucasus
Tennis is an ideal sport for the Caucasus, the President of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev said, speaking with the correspondent of Vestnik Kasvkaza.
"Undoubtedly, we are interested in the development of tennis in the Caucasus. Especially taking into account the fact that, according to statistics, it is considered to be the second sport after football. Today the International Federation includes 211 countries, and 101 million people are engaged in tennis around the world," he noted.
In addition, Tarpishchev shared his opinion about the level of development of tennis in Azerbaijan. The President of the federation recalled that in 2009, he, together with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, took part in the opening of the tennis academy in Baku. At the same time he expressed the opinion that 5-6 such centers are necessary for the rapid development of this sport in the country.
