Sports commentator of Vestnik Kavkaza: Baku reaches middle of sporting feast
The First European Games in Baku have reached their midpoint – the eleventh day of the competitions started today, sports commentator of Vestnik Kavkaza, Orhan Elchuev, noted live on Vesti FM radio.
"We are in the middle of a sporting feast," he said, reminding that Russian athletes managed to win 11 gold medals, 6 silvers and 1 bronze yesterday. Yana Kudryavtseva set a record in medals at the First European Games, winning 4 golds – she became the champion in each competition in which she participated.
"After ten days, Russia has 77 medals. Azerbaijan ranks second in the rating table with 35 medals. A few minutes ago the Russian team summed up the first results – Russian participants who completed the competitions are leaving the European Games. Athletes and coaches have been awarded. About 60 athletes will leave Baku for home today, they will be replaced by others," Orhan Elchuev said.
He also noted that today Russians have the opportunity to win team medals in shooting, archery and Sambo.
