Trump: US is watching Iran protests
US President Donald Trump said Tuesday the US is watching the "brutal and corrupt Iranian regime" amid deadly protests in the country, continuing his public support for anti-government demonstrations.
"The people of Iran are finally acting against the brutal and corrupt Iranian regime. All of the money that President Obama so foolishly gave them went into terrorism and into their “pockets.” The people have little food, big inflation and no human rights. The U.S. is watching!" Trump posted on his Twitter page.
US Vice President Mike Pence said earlier that the U.S. will not repeat the "shameful mistake" of ignoring the "heroic resistance of the Iranian people" as the Trump administration vows to support Iranian protesters.
More than 20 people have died and hundreds have been arrested following violent clashes in Iran as anti-government protests continue across the country since December 28, 2017.
