Turkey launches Istanbul Canal construction
In Turkey, the ceremony of laying the first bridge is currently taking place as part of the construction of the Istanbul shipping canal. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed the audience at the groundbreaking ceremony.
According to Erdogan, the total cost of construction work for the construction of the canal is approximately $ 15 billion according to current plans. Istanbul Canal will be built in 6 years. He called this project a new page in the development of Turkey, Anadolu Agency reports.
The head of the Ministry of Transport Adil Karaismayiloglu, also participating in the ceremony, stressed that the growth of shipping on the Bosphorus poses a threat to both the security and ecology of Istanbul, while the Istanbul Canal will be 13 times safer than the natural strait.
