Turkish police raid two mafia groups
Istanbul police have detained 42 people in an operation against two suspected mafia organizations.
The police’s Anti-Organized Crime Department also seized a number of pistols, machine guns and other guns and ammunition in the raids. Daily Sözcü said some 38 guns were seized.
The simultaneous operations spread to Tekirdağ, Sakarya and Kocaeli, three provinces neighboring Istanbul, and Samsun by the Black Sea.
The detention warrant for 42 also includes Sedat Şahin and Alattin Saral, the alleged leaders of the two groups subject to the police operation, which are named after their surnames, the Hurriyet Daily reports.
