UEFA to investigate Turkish football team's military-style salute
UEFA vowed to investigate Turkey's controversial military-style celebration, after Cenk Tosun scored a 90th-minute winner against Albania on Friday night.
The Everton striker then led a few of his team-mates in a unified gesture imitating soldiers, with their right hand touching the side of their head.
And in the changing room afterwards, with the country taking a big step towards Euro 2020 qualification, the entire squad and coaching staff replicated the salute.
The Turkish Football Federation tweeted the photo and write that the team dedicated the win to "the victory of the soldiers and citizens who were martyred".
UEFA’s press chief Philip Townsend said that he had not seen the gesture but agreed it "could be considered a provocation," the Sun reported.
