Uzbekistan to elect president within three months
Uzbekistan's parliament recommended the CEC of the country to organize presidential elections in full accordance with the law "On elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan".
The date of elections will be announced soon.
"In the coming days, we will hold a meeting and determine the date of early elections of a new head of state in connection with the death the first president of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on September 2," CEC spokesman said.
"In accordance with the law, they must be held within three month," he noted.
Recall that earlier today Uzbekistan's parliament appointed Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev as interim president.
