Mikhail Shvidkoi: it is important to strengthen cultural and educational ties between the South and North CaucasusIt is important to develop social contacts between the South and the North Caucasus, which could be of great benefit to the whole region, Russian presidential special envoy for international cultural cooperation Mikhail Shvidkoi told Vestnik Kavkaza in an interview.Shvidkoi mentioned the 3rd Baku International Humanities Forum as one of the projects that has helped strengthen relations between the North and South Caucasus. "This is an important forum which was held at numerous venues associated with the humanitarian aspects of human activity," Shvidkoi said. "I believe that this forum is extremely important, because a number of issues which are important for the republics of the North Caucasus are discussed there.""I find the Russian-Armenian inter-regional forum which takes place in Yerevan interesting. Its participants are not only leaders of the central part of Russia or Siberia, but also presidents of republics and heads of administrations of the North Caucasus.""Now we are counting on the strengthening of humanitarian relations with Georgia," Shvidkoi said.He added that he believes that international festivals in the North and South Caucasus are a major factor of stability in the region. "Under the patronage of Khloponin, the presidential envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District, several festivals were held, including one in Kabardino-Balkaria as well as some other regions. It seems to me that this is a very important thing, especially since, as a rule, young people take part in the festivals.
