Moscow State University enters QS rankings of top 50 world universities

The Lomonosov Moscow State University has entered the QS rankings of the top 50 world universities for the first time, according to the head of the QS Intelligence Unit, Ben Sowter. The university was ranked 35th for linguistics, 36th for physics and astronomy, 42nd for mathematics and 48th for modern languages. In 2014, the university was only included in the rankings for its physics and mathematics achievements, TASS reports.

The university made it to the top 100 for computer science and information systems, the top 150 for chemistry, communications and mass media, farming, marine science, engineering, history, philosophy, politics and international relations, statistics and operational research, the top 200 for education, geography, material studies, pharmaceutics and pharmacology. In other words, the MSU doubled its presence in the rankings.

The Saint Petersburg State University us listed among 100 best universities for linguistics, moved from the group of the top 151-200 to the group of the top 100-150. It was included in the list of the top 151-200 for history, physics and astronomy and in the list of the top 101-150 for modern languages.

The Rector of Saint Petersburg State University, Nikolai Kropachev, noted that foreign specialists are praising the linguistic school of the university. The university made progress with the help of leading scientists and additional resources. Kropachev reminded that Stanislav Smirnov, a winner of the Fields Medal, had been working at the university for years, business was interested in talented students and young scientists.

The Higher School of Economics entered the top 100 for research in development for the first time. It is included in the list of the top 200 for philosophy, sociology, economics and econometrics.

The National Research Nuclear University MEPhI made it to the top 100 in physics and astronomy for the first time, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology entered the top 200.

The Novosibirsk State University entered the top 150 for mathematics, physics and astronomy and the top 200 for philosophy.
