Iran to establish rail link with Turkmenistan

Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Developments Ali Nikzad announced that construction phase of a railway connecting Iran to Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan will be completed by early 2012, Fars News reports.

"The railroad will be completed by the end of the (Iranian) year (March 2012) and Iran will be connected to Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Russia and China," the minister said on Tuesday.

The minister added that the 86-kilometer railroad, which draws $150 million, is a portion of a 920-kilometer railway that the three countries agreed to build in 2007.
