New Customs Code in Azerbaijan to be in force from January 1
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has approved the new Customs Code, which comes into force from January 2012, Trend reports.
The existing Customs Code was adopted in 1997. This document will lose its force from the beginning of next year.
Adoption of the new Customs Code will create favourable conditions for strengthening the material and technical basis of the customs system, build the customs infrastructure in accordance with modern requirements, increase state budget revenues, allow widespread use of measures on tariff and non-tariff regulation of export-import operations, accelerating Azerbaijan's membership in the WTO, the total application of automatic control in the customs system, increasing the efficiency of customs control, improvement and development of the customs tariff policy, increasing the role of customs in ensuring economic security, strengthening the fight against crimes in the area of customs, increasing the role of customs in socio-economic life, bringing the instruments ofcustoms regulations into line with international ones, simplifying rules for registring export-import transactions in trade and economic relations and others.
The adoption of the Customs Code in its new version will require improving about 70% of the regulations in place in the country.
