Turkmenistan becomes vice chair of UN General Assembly
193 countries have voted for Turkmenistan as the vice chair of the UN General Assembly at the 68th session today. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has congratulated his people in a letter sent from the UN headquarters in New York.
The Concept of Foreign Policy of Turkmenistan for 2013-2017 states expansion of partner relations with the UN and its organizations.
Turkmenistan became the vice chair at the 62nd and 64th session of the UN General Assembly in 2007 and 2009 respectively. It cooperates with the UN in the energy, ecological, water and other fields of security. Special attention is paid to transit of energy resources. A related resolution was initiated by Turkmenistan at the UNGA on May 17.
