Experts comment on sentencing of Navalny

Alexey Mukhin, Director of the Center for Political Information, has commented on 5 years of probation for Russian oppositionist Alexey Navalny announced by the Kirov Regional Court over the Kirovles case. He expressed confidence that Navalny will try to make as much use of the sentence as possible. The oppositionist may benefit from having crime records as an excuse for certain political failures.

Oleg Matveychev, a professor of the Higher School of Economics, said that he expected 3 years of prison for Navalny. He believes that the probation will make the oppositionist more cautious next time, because probation may always turn into imprisonment at any time.
