Iranian ambassador presents new national aims

The new Iranian Ambassador to Russia, Mehdi Sanai, former head of the Iranian-Russian inter-parliamentary group and head of the parliamentary committee for Caspian, as well as Iran's first Russian-speaking ambassador, presented the new foreign political program of Iran to Russian mass media in Moscow today.

The ambassador has named the following goals of Iranian foreign policy: the lifting of international sanctions, a clarification of the nuclear program, the development of relations with Russia, China and India with respect of national interests, stimulation of economic integration with neighbours, cooperation in fighting extremism, a formation of bilateral and multilateral political and economic ties with neighbours.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the new diplomatic mission in Russia consider cooperation with Russia a means of settling regional conflicts. The ambassador said that Iran hoped to resolve all differences in the Middle East, restore ties with countries of the Gulf.

Sanai confirmed that Iran wanted peace and stability in the region and a peaceful solution for the Syrian conflict.

Commenting on staff training, the ambassador noted that the Tehran University had a subdepartment for the Russian language. Some of its graduates work in ministries, Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Kazan, Iranian Embassy.

Sanai concluded the talks with the topic of shipment of the S-300 missile complexes. He urged Russia to fulfill the contact and ship the systems to Iran. The diplomat reminded that the complex was defensive and would not violate international law. He added that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had discussed the problem during his recent visit to Iran.
