Head of Turkish General Staff devolves power to successor

The ceremony of devolving the power of the head of Turkish General Staff has taken place. Army General Ishyk Koshaner will replace Army General Ilker Bashbug. He will take over the powers on August 30th, Turkish media report.

General Koshaner was born in 1945 in Izmir. In 1965 he graduated from the Military School of Land Forces and in 1978 he graduated from the Military Academy of Land Forces. In 2006 Koshaner became the head of the Turkish Gendarmerie. On August 30th 2008 he was appointed the Commander of Land Forces. He is married and has children. Ilker Bashbug had held the post since August 2008.
