Turkey protests against religious classes in schools

 

Alawi trade unions have boycotted religious lessons at schools in the Turkish cities of Ankara, Istanbul, Eskisehir, Izmir, Antalia, Edirne, Artvin. Teachers, parents and pupils took part in the protests, RIA Novosti reports.The police in Izmir used water cannons. 400 people took part in the demonstration in the Kadikoy District of Istanbul, dozens of them were detained by the police. More were detained at a school in Ankara. The Republican People’s Party of Turkey is speaking out against classes of religious ethics at schools.
