Araghchi says IAEA will not get access to objects beyond Additional Protocol
Iranian deputy foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said there will be no access of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to Iranian sites beyond the voluntary Additional Protocol to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) safeguards.
"What was being raised in the negotiations is the accesses provided according to the Additional Protocol," Araghchi said after meeting with the IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano.
"Access to non-nuclear sites which can include military centers has its own conditions under the Additional Protocol and is meant for taking field samples,' Araghchi reminded, assessing the meeting with Amano as helpful.
"There are still many differences both in particular and general issues. It seems the talks should continue for another two weeks to reach a single text and a draft with the least differences about it so that it can be finalized in the upcoming ministerial meeting," he said.
