Son of leading Muslim figure attacked in Moscow
Murtuz Khachilayev, a son of the former Russian MP from Dagestan, Nadirshakh Khachilayev, has been attacked in south Moscow, RBC reports.
Khachilayev was shot in the stomach. His friend Shamil Ichalov was killed.
The Dagestani official had arrived in Moscow from Makhachkala.
The police initiated a case on murder attempt, infliction of grave injuries, illegal trafficking or weapons.
Narirshah Khachilayev, the father, was heading the Russian Muslims’ Union in the late 1990s, later recognized as an extremist organization. He visited Khasavyurt together with Alexander Lebed, where agreements were signed with Chechen militants in 1996. N. Khachilayev became a Russian MP as a member of the Our House-Russia Party.
N. Khachilayev is believed to be a former leader of Wahhabi groups in Dagestan. He was arrested various times after 1999 and sentenced to 1.5 years of prison. He was released on amnesty.
The former militant leader was killed outside his houe in Makhachkala in 2003. The murderers have not been found.
