Human Rights Watch analyzes situation in Armenia

Human Rights Watch has presented a report for 90 states, including Armenia, 1news.am reports.


The document says that the ruling coalition preserved its positions after the parliamentary elections in May 2012. Police violence remains. Investigation of deaths in the Armed Forces failed.


Mass media need more pluralism, some journalists were attacked while reporting about the elections on May 6. Discrimination of sexual minorities remains. Access to anesthetics was poor.


The elections of May 6 were called competitive and peaceful, although unfair due to the administrative resource and pressure on the population.


44 people died in the Armed Forces, according to September reports. Forum 18 said on September 20 that 32 people were in jail for refusing to serve.
