Ministry of Education supports the ban on headscarves in Mordovia
The Russian Ministry of Education has expressed its satisfaction with the Supreme Court's decision, banning the hijab in schools of Mordovia, the press service of the Ministry said.
"It coincided with our position that we have defended consistently for several years," TASS cited its source.
In 2013, the Ministry of Education developed a model act for the regions of the Russian Federation, which specifies that school dress should follow a business style and have a secular nature.
"Russia is a multinational and multi-confessional country, but all children must be dressed appropriately in the classroom," the department said.
Wearing of hijabs in schools was first banned in Russia’s southern Stavropol region in 2013.
