Similar presentations had previously been held in Rome, Paris, London, Berlin. The goodwill ambassador characterized the relations with Russia as very firm and good-neighbourly. The countries are united by decades of cultural and human ties, bilateral political and economic cooperation.

In Aliyeva’s opinion, hosting the I European Games was great honour and responsibility, signifying trust of the European sports community. The First Lady said that only 2.5 years had been given for the preparations and everything was ready for the opening in the next two months.

Mehriban Aliyev said that experience gained while preparing for the Eurovision Song Contest held three years ago was used to prepare for the European Games. She added that collaboration with other organizations, for example, the European Olympic Committee and international federations, was initiated.

The official emphasized that the Games will be a festival for athletes. The accommodation for athletes meets the top world standards. A big cultural program will be organized to show the history and culture of the country.

Mehriban Aliyeva opined that the lack of unity, equality and justice was the cause of many conflicts and tensions. The European Games will compensate the lack. She noted that Azerbaijan was promoting multiculturalism, located on the junction of the East and the West along the Great Silk Road.
