Tobias Ellwood to attend opening ceremony of European Games

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Tobias Ellwood, will attend the opening ceremony of the First European Games in Baku.

The UK will be represented by 158 athletes in the upcoming Games, Trend reports.

The 2015 European Games will be held in Baku on 12-28 June 2015. Their program includes competitions in 20 sports. More than 6 thousand athletes from 49 countries will participate in the Games, 239 sets of medals will be played for.

The Baku 2015 European Games Organizing Committee is headed by the First Lady of Azerbaijan, the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, a member of the executive committee of the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, Mehriban Aliyeva. This fact indicates the importance of this event to the Republic of Azerbaijan: the successful experience of holding Eurovision 2012 in Baku under the leadership of Mehriban Aliyeva inspires confidence that the European Games will reach the standards of preparing and holding sports at this level.

The Games will promote peace and good relations between the nations and states of the European continent.
