 The CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces is having drills called Cobalt-2013 at base N1 of the Kamadovsky Training Center of the North Caucasus Regional Command of the Internal Forces of the Russian Interior Ministry in the Rostov Region to train counter-terrorism operations, CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zaynetdinov said.Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan take part in the drills. The active phase of the training will start on July 11, attended by CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha.

 Yerevan will host a forum in Yerevan today to discuss formation of CSTO frces, RIA Novosti reports.The forum was initiated by the Institute for National Strategic Studies named after Drastamat Kanayan of the Armenian Ministry, secretariat of the CSTO and the CSTO Institute.Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Oganyan, CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha, members of the CSTO council of scientists and experts, specialists from Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Russia and diplomats will attend the talks.

Members of CSTO Military Committee to meet in Moscow

 Members of the CSTO Military Committee will meet in Moscow on June 25. Heads of general staffs and CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha will attend the talks to discuss security threats and further integration, according to goals set the a summit in Bishkek on May 27-28, 2013, News Armenia reports.The committee will consider practical means of realizing goals of the organization until 2020, formation of joint air defenses and their integration. Attendants of the meeting will discuss inspection of collective security systems according to the plan for 2013.

CSTO to form collective aviation

 Secretary General of the CSTO Nikolai Bordyuzha said that the organization was planning to form collective air forces, News Armenia reports.The collective air forces will assist in ground operations, help transport soldiers. The joint air defenses will not be part of the collective air forces.

 CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha has presented a report on information and analysis at the CSTO Analytical Association. Experts attending the meeting discussed signing of a memorandum on formation of an expert association of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. The Institute for Caspian Cooperation, Institute for Economic Strategies of the RAS and the ECOOM Analytical Center of Minsk are its initiators.

Shamanov may become head of new CSTO military committee

General Staff chiefs of CSTO member-states will supervise the new CSTO military committee, Secretary General of the organization Nikolai Bordyuzha said, RIA Novosti reports.The chiefs will develop a concept for military cooperation. Formation of the military committee will be discussed at the Collective Security Council during a session in Moscow on December 19.Colonel-General Vladimir Shamanov, Commander of the Airborne Forces, will most likely become the head of the CSTO Joint Staff.

CSTO still expects Uzbekistan to restore membership

CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha said at the 10th session of the Interstate Commission for Military and Economic Cooperation of the CSTO that Uzbekistan’s quitting the organization was temporary, RIA Novosti reports.Uzbekistan quit the organization in June 2012.The organization believes that Uzbekistan cannot maintain its national security alone, especially with the Afghan factor.Bordyuzha said that a project was prepared to determine further steps on Uzbekistan’s leaving the CSTO.

The CSTO has invited the UN for the Unbreakable Brotherhood hosted by Kazakhstan in October, according to the memorandum signed by CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha and UN Deputy Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Erve Ladsu at the UN Headquarters on September 28, Interfax-Azerbaijan reports.The document includes the principles and trends of peacekeeping, the exchange of information and the maintenance of peace and security.

Armenia concludes CSTO training

 The Collective Rapid Reaction Forces (CRRF) of the CSTO have started the final stage of the Vzaimodeystviye-2012 military drills at the Marshal Bagramyan Range in the Armavir Region of Armenia, RIA Novosti reports.Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha, Armenian and Russian Defense Ministers Seyran Oganyan and Anatoly Serdyukov, heads of diplomatic missions of Armenia, UN and OSCE observers are attending the drills.

The departure of the ISAF from Afghanistan may worsen the situation, Director General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Nikolai Bordyuzha said at a video conference of Astana, Yerevan, Kiev and Kishinev, Habar reports.Afghan militants may try to break into Middle Asian states, especially Tajikistan.  NATO forces will leave Afghanistan in 2014.
