Azerbaijan marks 22nd anniversary of independence

Azerbaijan is marking the 22nd anniversary of independence. The Supreme Council of Azerbaijan passed the constitutional act on the independence of the republic on October 18, 1991. Modern Azerbaijan is the successor of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic that existed from May 28, 1918, to April 28, 1920.The Azerbaijani Declaration of Independence was passed on August 30, 1991. The referendum on independence was held on December 29.A special concert was organized to mark the anniversary. Russian ex-Minister for Culture Mikhail Shvydkoy attended the concert and emphasized the importance of the event, stating that it was dedicated to Russian-Azerbaijani friendship.He expressed hope that interethnic peace will be restored in Moscow, because many Azerbaijanis were citizens of Russia.Azerbaijan is marking the 22nd anniversary of independence.
