Kazakh President on Crimea:we don’t call it annexation

Kazakh President Kassym Jomart-Tokayev said that the republic doesn’t believe that Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula

"We don’t call what happened in Crimea annexation," he said in an interview with Deutsche Welle. "What happened that happened," Tokayev added.

According to the Kazakh president, "annexation is too heavy a word to apply to Crimea."

"Second, there was no fear" that Russia could annex parts of Kazakhstan, Tokayev said.

Kazakhstan has “absolutely trusting, good-neighborly relations with Russia," the head of state said, adding that they "believed in the wisdom and decency of the Russian leadership from the start."
