Turkmenistan refuses to use military force as an instrument of foreign policy - President of Turkmenistan
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at a government meeting said that his country considers full adherence to the Charter of theUnited Nations to be the basic condition for ensuring strategic stability and peace. "Our country will continue to rigorously and consistently pursue a policy of good neighborliness and peace-making, actively promote the work to achieve harmony and sustainable development. We totally reject the use of military force as an instrument of foreign policy and international relations," Berdymukhamedov said. He recalled that Ashgabat had taken several initiatives to maintain peace and stability in Central Asia and the Caspian region at regional and international levels."These initiatives received strong support in the international community. In this connection, in the second half of 2012 we should hold a conference on security in Central Asia and the Caspian region, with the broad participation of the delegations. The creation of the Advisory Council on Peaceful Development in Central Asia and the Caspian region could be one of the political outcomes of this conference," the Turkmen leader said. He also said that Ashgabat will take part in the World Forum "Rio +20", which will be conducted by the United Nations in July 2012. "We treat this forum as an important event and a step towards realizing the goals of sustainable development. In this forum we intend to make a number of specific proposals. As a permanent member of the Executive Committee of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Turkmenistan will continue to actively promote measures for theirprotection and support," the head of Turkmenistan concluded.
According to the official figures of the Turkmen side, last year Turkmenistan signed 111 bilateral interstate agreements. In 2011, a Turkmen government delegation paid visits to 10 countries around the world. Government delegations from 11 countries visited Turkmenistan.
